What a year it has been. At home and around the globe, we have seen a major transformation in the status quo. From economic and political shifts to the rise of artificial intelligence, it’s clear that our world is changing at an ever-accelerating pace. However, no matter what the future brings, some things will always be valuable—like a high-quality college education.

Indeed, at a time when the institution of higher education is under tremendous scrutiny, Puget Sound proves that a rigorous liberal arts education continues to be a solid investment in tumultuous times. By instilling the foundations of a Puget Sound education—critical thinking, clear communication, and a respect for commonality and difference—we are preparing our graduates with skills that cannot be automated and equipping them to succeed in any field or endeavor they choose to pursue. In an election year when our collective political rhetoric has reached a fever pitch, we are also ensuring our students have the tools and knowledge to be thoughtful citizens engaged in the democratic process.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors and friends of the university, who champion the mission of Puget Sound and allow us to recruit and retain talented students, passionate faculty, and dedicated staff who are making a difference in the lives of our students. This year, we are inspired by the stalwart support of our community and we celebrate particularly transformational gifts to support educational access and athletics, and look forward to the launch of exciting programs, such as our new Department of Environmental Studies & Sciences and our reimagined core curriculum. All of this gives me tremendous hope for our future.

I’m pleased to share with you a snapshot of how Puget Sound is moving with purpose and determination toward a bright future and ever greater achievements.
